Farming Opportunities and Scholarships – Senior Students

Attached are all the opportunities on Training Farms in New Zealand for 2026 with key dates (Application Closing Dates) plus contact details for each.

Primary Industries Scholarship webpage has a collation of scholarships available to school leavers and those studying with a focus on the Agri sector. There are over 230 scholarships with a value of over $3m. Also attached is the Smedley Station’s Prospectus for 2026. Below is a note from the Station Manager.

“Do you know a young person finishing school, ready for their next challenge, and interested in a career in farming?

Smedley is one of New Zealand’s most respected agricultural training farms, located in Central Hawke’s Bay. Since 1931, it has trained young people in practical farming through a unique, live-in experience where cadets learn by doing, gain NZQA-recognised qualifications, and set themselves up for careers in the industry or further study.

Each year, we select 13 cadets who are highly motivated and ready to learn. They don’t need to come from a farming background – just a genuine interest in agriculture and a willingness to work hard.

Our program is a two-year commitment, with cadets living and working on station. There are no course fees, and we provide a gear allowance to help set them up for success. Hostel accommodation, and food is provided free of charge.

What sets Smedley apart is our learning environment. Cadets are supported by a team of experienced farmers and trainers who are genuinely committed to their success – not just as future farmers, but as people.

Farming is a great industry, and a Smedley cadetship opens doors. Thank you for sharing this with your students and networks.”
