The consultation around an enrolment scheme amendment has begun for our school. This is to assist our Board to manage demand for enrolments within our current maximum roll and to provide a fair and transparent process for enrolment as required by the Education and Training Act 2020.
State integrated schools are not required to have a home zone but should accord priority to applicants for whom the school is a reasonably convenient school.
This amendment to the enrolment scheme reflects the Education and Training Act 2020 as well as recently redrawn parish boundaries. This change identifies areas of reasonable convenience for St Thomas of Canterbury College in the form of Qualifying Parishes. Applicants to St Thomas of Canterbury College who reside in a Qualifying Parish will be prioritised above applicants who do not. This is a format that the Ministry of Education has consulted upon and agreed with the Catholic Education Office and these changes align with amendments proposed and made to other Catholic single sex secondary schools in Christchurch.

The enrolment scheme is proposed to commence from 01 January 2024.
All students who are currently enrolled before the enrolment scheme amendment commences are entitled to remain enrolled. Any new enrolments after the commencement date of the amended scheme will be allocated places subject to the order of priorities and processes listed in the amended scheme.
Consultation closes on 26 August 2022.
