Last night we were informed by our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, that we will be moving back to Alert Level 2. St Thomas’ remains open for all students. I can assure you that we continue to have a safe environment for our students under Level 2. We emailed our full Level 2 Health and Safety Plan to parents and caregivers in early May. I have attached this again.
We have ensured our site is again in line with public health advice, with an emphasis on good hygiene practices, a contact register for visitors and ensuring staff and students stay home if they are sick.
In an Alert Level 2 school environment, this means children, young people, and staff need to maintain a physical distance so that they are not breathing on or touching each other, coupled with good hygiene practices (coughing into your elbow, handwashing and drying) and regular cleaning of commonly touched surfaces.
There are situations where physical distancing is not possible, such as some sporting activities. In these situations extra emphasis on handwashing and drying (or cleansing with hand sanitiser) before and after activities and regular cleaning of equipment is ensured.
It is important that parents fully support this approach by doing their bit – keeping children home if they are unwell and seeking medical advice about whether a child may need to be tested; and ensuring good hygiene practices at all times.
We will encourage all students to increase their hygiene practices at school, ensuring we keep our staff and students safe while at Alert Level 2.
I would like to highlight some key points:
· Drop off and pick up must be off site
· All visitors to sign in at the office, including any parents
· Students to provide drink bottles – we will have access to water
· Year 13 to remain onsite
· Sport cancellations and postponements will be made, as information comes to hand
