Maori Students – Science Bootcamp Opportunity

We are pleased to announce that the University of Canterbury will be hosting a Tech Bootcamp over 16-18 January 2023. This outreach programme is open to current Year 12 Māori students who are interested in STEM subjects, and want to know more about Science and Engineering.

Successful applicants will spend 3 days doing hands-on STEM activities with some of NZ’s top researchers and students! They will work on real-world problems spanning science and engineering, including renewable energy, nanotechnology, aerospace engineering and making their own solar car.

As the programme is only a day programme, it is only open to students in the Canterbury region. The event runs from 9-5 each day. It is based off the Tech Bootcamp offered through Victoria University of Wellington in the in past. The programme is free of charge but spaces are limited to 16 students, and therefore applications will be competitive. Students don’t necessarily need to be the best students academically, just keen to learn more about where Science and Engineering careers can take them.

All information can be found here, including the link to a short application form online: https://www.canterbury.ac.nz/epecentre/techbootcamp/ Students will also be required to supply a teacher’s letter of support emailed to info@epecentre.ac.nz .

The programme is hosted at the University of Canterbury, Ilam campus, Christchurch.

Applications close on 13 November 2022.
