Rostering Home Strike Action

The NZPPTA, the secondary teachers’ union, have announced that they will take further industrial strike action in the form of ‘rostering home’ and ‘rolling regional action’ over the next 5 weeks.

For ‘rostering home’ this means that staff who are in the union will not be teaching classes for the following year levels on the following days:

 Tuesday 11 June – Year 10

 Tuesday 25 June – Year 11

Tuesday 2 July – Year 12

The St Thomas of Canterbury College School Board of Trustees has determined that St Thomas’ would not be able to cover instruction for classes for the year levels above on the days shown because there would not be enough teachers to cover the number of classes. However, we will be able to provide supervision for any students whose parents are unable to find alternative care on those days. Students should come to the main office when they arrive at school and will be directed to a classroom for supervision.

Formal notice from NZPPTA regarding rostering home will not be communicated with the school until 3 days prior to these events. We do however wish to provide our community with as much notice as possible so you can make plans for your children on these days.

We realise this is inconvenient for many parents and caregivers and we thank you for your continued understanding.

Kind Regards,

Steve Hart
