Our School Board
Meet Our Board
During your son’s intermediate and high school life, he will spend over 8000 hours being educated, mentored, and inspired by teachers. Our focus is on recruiting and providing to our parent base the very best educators possible. With the requirements of a 21st-century learning environment and the importance of good, supportive role models to develop character, we are proud to be a school that focuses on these areas.

Andy Steel
“I am married to Anna and we have four sons who have attended or currently attend STC. I am an old boy of the College attending from 1982 to 1988. I am a partner in the law firm of Steel & Co where I practice primarily in property/commercial law. The Steel family has a strong historical connection to the College and the Christian Brothers.
Whilst it has been some years since the Christian Brothers walked the corridors and the grounds of the College, I am very impressed with the way the Edmund Rice charism has been fostered in the current environment through an emphasis on social justice.
The College is a well-led, vibrant school offering plenty of opportunities for all students. I look forward to playing my part in ensuring the College’s continued progress and growth. “

As an Old Boy of the College (2000 – 2006) I am honoured to be asked to be a representative on the board. I have enjoyed watching the evolution of the College since I have left and look forward to engaging with the wider school community as we support the positive change and ongoing innovation in the College as it strives to best meet the needs of our young men.

I am a proud old boy of the College, having attended from 2009-2013. My younger brother currently attends the College. I am a father to two beautiful daughters, Aewa and Amo. I am currently a Cultural Land Management Advisor at Environment Canterbury, with a focus on Māhinga Kai.
Previously I have worked in the education sector, managing cultural relationships in the tertiary space. St Thomas has always valued growing men of service and I am excited for the opportunity to give back to a school that has given so much to me. Kua tawhiti kē to haerenga mai, kia kore e haere tonu. He nui rawa o mahi, kia kore e mahi tonu.

My eldest son Lachlan attended STC, and I have three younger children Elliot, Harry and Andy who attend St Bernadette’s primary. I have a strong interest in diversity and inclusion and how we ensure that no one is left behind. I think this is particularly important in digital and our young men have a great opportunity as they take the skills and values they have learned into the world.
Coming from council I have a strong understanding of governance responsibilities and wish to be part of a board that helps our principal and staff be supported and empowered to continue the great work that they do. I really value the work the school does in both our Catholic and wider community and hope to be able to support that as part of the Board. Lastly I hope to represent you well on the Board, ensuring that St Thomas’s continues to be a wonderful, safe environment for the growth and development of our young men.

I have had a a successful international corporate career in sales, marketing and commercial strategy, now having my own business, working in governance and in advisory with a breadth of New Zealand domestic and export businesses.
I currently have two son’s at the College, Angus and Tom, and am a big supporter of the inclusive community that St Thomas offers the young men.
I am an active relaxer and my happy place is anytime with my family, supporting their endeavours, skiing, or summers in Kaiteri.

School governance is new territory for me, so being on the Board is a great chance for me to learn and grow.
My husband Richy and I have been really impressed by the character and values of STC. As our son Noah navigates his high school career here, being on the Board gives me a chance to support the school in continuing to shape great young men. I’m keen to contribute from a parent’s perspective and add value to the school community.

As an old boy of St Thomas of Canterbury College (1995–1999), I’m proud to contribute to a school that helped shape me. My stepson Carter attends STC, and I remain deeply connected to its community and values. My time at St Thomas instilled confidence, curiosity, and a lasting belief in service and possibility. I value the College’s Catholic ethos and the spirit of inclusivity it fosters.
A Chartered Accountant by training, I’ve held senior finance and management roles across consultancy, investment banking, and our family business, and have contributed at board level in both New Zealand and Australia in executive capacities. I hope to draw on these experiences to support the school’s continued growth and success.
Kim Masina
Isaac Construction for close to 13 years and currently serve as the Business Development and Sponsorships Manager. In this role, I manage and assist with partnerships, community engagement, and strategic initiatives that connect people, businesses, and opportunities across the motu. My skillset to build relationships and develop long-term strategies adds valuable insight to the school’s governance and future planning.
Beyond my role at Isaac Construction, I also hold several external governance positions that strengthen my contribution to the education sector. As the incoming Chairman of the Civil Contractors New Zealand Canterbury Westland Branch, Committee Member of the Institute of Directors Canterbury Branch and most recently a member of the Pasific Advisory Group for the IoD. These roles involve promoting strong governance practices, supporting leadership development, and encouraging collaboration across industries- experience that directly benefits work with the school board.
I currently have a son at the school who is Year 11 and another that will eventually attend over the coming years so helping young people realise their potential and creating clear pathways between education and future careers is a keen passion of mine. My mix of governance, community focus, and industry knowledge helps to provide thoughtful, forward-looking guidance that supports the school’s vision to prepare students for success beyond the classroom- Ia Manuia le aso”
