St Thomas of Canterbury College
Welcome From Our Principal
Whakahirahira te kaupapa nei o o tatou kura. Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. Talofa lava, i matua, malo le soifua. Afio mai.
I extend a very warm welcome to our College. At St Thomas’, we believe that the best preparation for life is an education that fosters excellence in a caring, diverse environment. Our staff is committed to guiding our students through a broad range of spiritual, learning, cultural, sporting and service opportunities in order to develop young men with “educated hearts and educated minds”. We are a state-integrated Catholic school. Our size enables us to provide individual attention and develop close relationships with our students in order for them to develop a healthy self-image, relaxed but confident personal skills and a positive outlook on life.
We are a boys’ school and as such maintain a clear focus on boys’ needs and the pathway from boyhood to manhood. We will provide your son with adventure, testing of courage and strong, good male role models. We want the young men who graduate from our College to be men of justice and compassion who believe they have much to offer the world in order for it to be a better place.
You as a family are central to the partnership as your son walks this journey. When you enrol you and your son become part of the St Thomas’ family which extends well beyond school.
With best wishes,
Steve Hart, Principal.

Our Values
We aim to inspire students to be responsible, socially conscious, resilient, and personally successful in the rapidly changing 21st century, and to be a student-centred model for educational innovation.
Our educational programs encourage students to learn through collaboration with family (home), our college and community. Students develop the resilience necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Their education at St Thomas’ prepares them for lifelong learning, productive citizenship or service, and personal growth.
Students learn in an innovative and professional environment fostered by the use of advanced learning methods and technology. Both staff and students understand the commitment necessary to implement a rigorous and relevant curriculum, one in which technology, standards, and skills development are embedded.
Integrating education and technology has put St Thomas’ in a privileged position. In order to ensure justice, equity, and success for both students and staff, funding and access to technology are critical. PD in developing the skill levels of teachers for the purpose of using technology for teaching and learning is critical in our endeavours.
Educated Hearts & Educated Minds
Edmund Rice education has a vision for justice and peace for all. Faithful to the call of Jesus and inspired by Edmund Rice, founder of the Christian Brothers, we aspire to offer hope to a world where the dignity of humanity and the integrity of creation are often diminished. Through holistic education, we form passionate and compassionate young men who are not only aware of the structures that prevent all creation from being fully alive but also have the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and spirit to act and advocate for a better world for all.
We acknowledge and take responsibility for nurturing and celebrating our Catholic identity and sharing the intellectual and cultural traditions of our Catholic faith. We are welcoming and inclusive of all faith traditions. We acknowledge the complexity of the modern world and therefore, we seek ways to create a Catholic identity that is meaningful within the modern world.
